THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

### This is an “on your own project”. After I read it, it should give me a pretty good idea that you understand the beginnings of the auto industry and the role it played in developing the U.S. into an industrial power. You will want your sheet from yesterdays’ video plus, you will have to do a lot of “on your own searching” for some of the information as I was unable to get this to Mrs. Culbert soon enough to have her add links on my web page. Some of the information you will need to look up while other questions are answers that only you can answer. Good Luck

 

Please answer the following questions:

  1. Name the three major auto industries in the U.S.
  2. Name the major person, or people, responsible for starting each.
  3. What are three advantages of having motorized vehicles? Explain
  4. Name at least two other businesses, or companies, that rely on the auto industry to make their living? (Explain How)
  5. Briefly (Possible time line) trace the evolution of the automobile from the early 1900’s until modern day.
  6. What role has government played in this industry? (I.E. tariffs, auto emissions, air pollution from factories, safety features)
  7. Name five people who have had a major influence on the car industry, besides the ones you named in question #2. Hint they may not be directly related to the car industry.
  8. How did the automobile plant help us in getting ready for both World War I and World War II?
  9. Name two other companies that have produced cars and tell the role they filled that the big three did not?
  10. What is outsourcing? Give one positive and one negative way in which this has impacted the auto industry.
  11. A. What role has the foreign market played in the auto industry? Do you see this as a positive or negative role? Explain.
  12. Who was Tucker and what role did the Tucker Automobile play in the history of the auto industry?
  13. What type of car would you buy and why?
  14. Following along with question #13, which car do you think is the best, give me three reasons why?
  15. Even though you live in the United States, would it bother you buying a Foreign made car? Explain
  16. If you were to go and buy a car tomorrow, list the top three things you would for in a car. Please put them in order according to importance?
  17. What do you think will happen to the big three in the next couple of years, according to what you’ve heard read and think?
  18. Where do you see the car industry in the next 20 years? Explain.
