Welcome to Delton-Kellogg Elementary School computers. Throughout the school year we will be working on a variety of projects and applications. Below are the class overviews for the grade levels.
Class Overviews:
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade Computers
Course Description and Goals
This class will teach students the fundamentals of touch-typing. Students will use appropriate posture, and hand positions when sitting at the keyboard.
Goal. Students will complete the lessons in Type to Learn Jr. This program covers all alpha and numeric keys. Students will touch-type at 8 - 10 wpm.
Goal. As the result of using proper posture and keyboarding skills, students will see an increase in their words per minute keyboarding and choose to continue keyboarding using good skills.
This class will also learn basic presentation applications. Students will produce a simple presentation using appropriate backgrounds, transitions, sounds, and graphics.
Goal. Students will demonstrate the ability to use basic editing skills such as: new, open, save, spell check, and editing.
Goal. Students will create and produce a quality slide show.
This class will also use online resources to improve their skills in math and English. The class will have a web site where students will have selected sites they will use during class time to enhance the learning they are doing in their academic classrooms.
Goal. Students will use computers for learning across the curriculum.
Goal. Students will use the resources at school and at home.

3rd & 4th Grade Computers

Goal. As the result of using proper posture and keyboarding skills, students will see an increase in their words per minute keyboarding and choose to continue keyboarding using good skills.
This class will also learn basic word processing applications. Students will produce small written documents using appropriate functions.
Goal. Students will demonstrate the ability to use basic skills such as: double spacing, tabulation, bold, italics, and underlining.
Goal. Students will create and produce a small written document.
This class will also use online resources to improve their skills in math and English. The class will have a web site where students will have selected sites they will use during class time to enhance the learning they are doing in their academic classrooms.
Goal. Students will use computers for learning across the curriculum.
Goal. Students will use age appropriate search engines to find appropriate homework help sites.
Skills Learned
Students will be working on a variety of programs throughout the school year, some of the programs include: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Kid Pix, Typing Time Jr., and Internet Explorer. The class work will align with Michigan Standards and Benchmarks for K-4 students. Michigan Standards and Benchmarks.
Grades
Elementary students will do a self assessment for computer class, along with teacher input. This assessments will be included with student reports.
Supplies
Students are welcome (encouraged) to bring their own personal headphones to computer class.
